I make no secret, I like ALDI groceries. I also make no secret that I like people that share my articles and maybe drop a fiver into the donations jar. But back to ALDI. So when we bought a pack of their Beef Ravioli (625g) we’ve done the conventional way too many times, (but can’t resist,) I decided to FAFO with a new way to make it into dinner.
Name: The Best All-One-Source Beef Ravioli a la Teddles Ingredients: (All bought at ALDI, there should be equivalents all over the world) 625g Beef Ravioli 1 medium brown onion 1-2 cloves garlic 1 jar tomato, onion, and garlic ready-made sauce 1/4 – 1/2 cup of green olives 1 tbsp capers 1 tsp beef stock powder 2-4 tbsp olive oil water as required (If you wanna go Full ALDI buy a bottle of flat mineral water from them…) Grated Parmesan for serving. Method: Peel and dice the onion and garlic cloves, put the olive oil in a deep-sided fry pan, add the diced ingredients and begin browning them. Add the ravioli and keep frying until around half the pasta cases are browned nicely. You need to stir, let sit for a minute, stir, etc. Once you’re happy with the result (be brave, it looks worse than it’ll taste!) add about 1/3 the jar of sauce and a few tablespoons of water and the beef stock powder. Keep simmering at the same temperature until the sauce is mostly reduced, add the olives and capers, and the rest of the sauce from the jar. Reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce has the right consistency, then serve immediately. (ish.) Serving: Serve with grated Parmesan. Notes: Almost every flavour is optional. Don’t like capers? Ditch ’em Garlic? C’mon, who doesn’t like garlic? (Although there are other ALDI sauces-in-a-jar that don’t involve garlic so go for it.) Also – you can definitely use any other brands, I just wanted to single-source everything as a test. The fried pasta idea is from the pasta alla assassina recipes online and has become a firm favourite with us. |
