This … magazine, newspaper, bog of blogs – whatever it is – has a few features hidden behind a members login. The membership’s free, it’s mainly to allow civil conversations on here rather than opening it up to spam and bots. One of the reasons it’s free is also that I use free versions of stuff like Jetpack and the Newspaper theme to get things done.
One of the downsides of that is that not everything is available in the free versions. I can only send out so many notifications about new posts a month, and that means that around half the posts each month go unannounced. So in effect you’re not getting all of the articles here unless you log in daily or weekly and check what’s new since last time. Unless …
… you subscribe to the newsletter and set it up for yourself so you get the news you want to see, and how often. (And you should totally become a member/subscriber as well. Which only costs you a few moments to join and it’s free.)
For the newsletter, open any article post and use the “Discover more from The TEdASPHERE Globe” subscribe button at the bottom. Once you’re subscribed, clicking that button again will let you change or drop your newsletter subscription at any time.
Click here to join the site as a member. Use the “Register” link to create your account, once you’re a member you’ll be able to comment on posts and post to Letters to the Editor. Later, you’ll also be able to submit stories for inclusion on the site, and by arrangement you can be upgraded to be a reporter/author on the site.
But Why Do Any Of That?
Well, it helps in a lot of ways. It helps you to find out about new articles, allows you to take part in discussions, submit classifieds and letters to the editor, and will soon allow you to write articles that can be posted on the site with approval. As I work out how far I can push free plugins and theme templates, there may be a few other perks as well, such as reporter/author upgrade.
It also helps me because I don’t have to manually announce new articles or spend money on all the “free” plugins and themes just yet, which is important to me because at the moment it’s almost entirely coming out of my pocket, and there isn’t much in there to begin with.
Lastly, it helps me if I ever take on sponsors or advertisers because I’ll have proof of how much of an audience I have.
