Just seven of you donating seven US dollars apiece lets me widely advertise one – just one – article – for just one week. It’s insane. It’s over half our average budget for food for a week.
I can’t do this without your help. I operate TEdASPHERE Globe completely out of pocket, on a pension. That one post/one week advert costs a bit over seventy-five Aussie dollars. This is why I ask for your help. Every time I advertise I gain a load of new one-time readers, and one to five of them become new regulars.
So give this some serious consideration please. A small donation is not a lot from you (less than the price of a cup of coffee) but means the world to this magazine and to me.

Just for finding and reading that bit above, here’s a Winter Fixit Recipe:
Decongestant / Antiseptic Brew
Ingredients:
You need one small brown onion, one small red onion, and one small white onion. With skins on, the more the merrier!
You need about 600ml of clean fresh water. That’s the most basic brew there. If you want more oomph to the brew also prepare and add:
Maybe a clove or garlic, skin on and lightly crushed
A small section – 2cm – 6cm of turmeric brushed clean and crushed roughly
Once Brewed:
Also the juice of two to four lemons.
A few generous tablespoons of honey.
Directions:
I’ll go over the ingredients and how to prep them first:
If your onion storage has a few other good skins floating around (and whose doesn’t?) you can add them too. Wash the skins, the onions and the garlic and the turmeric to get dust and dirt off them, then rough chop – onions into quarters, garlic smashed once or twice with the aside of the knife, turmeric roughly crushed / chopped. If you used turmeric perhaps also add a pinch of black pepper to the pot.
Put them all in a saucepan with the water, bring to a boil and simmer for 10 – 15 minutes. The water will have picked up a distinct colour from the ingredients, a darkish reddish-brown tint. It’s worked! That colour is the stuff you want! Strain the liquid into a heatproof container, I suggest a glass Pyrex jug or similar.
Add the honey and lemon juice (and if you want, a wedge of washed lemon peel for a few minutes and then remove it) and stir well, allow to cool and have a tablespoon or two.
Quercetin, allicin, and curcumin are all anti-inflammatory and antiseptic, adding the black pepper helps your body absorb the curcumin more easily and because you add it at the boiling/simmer stage you can use a bit less than you normally would.
Also you’ll notice that you barely taste the onion/garlic flavours over the lemon and honey, nor does the pepper taste obviously peppery – it’s in all ways a kind of mild-tasting brew but it helps with the sore throat and mucus.
Serving:
Hehehe – actually there is a kind of a trick to it, hence this addendum. Keep the liquid in the fridge with a lid or cover on it, pour the few tablespoonful into a cup or mug and nuke it for 10 – 20 seconds in the microwave, let it come to thermal equilibrium, test that it’s not too hot, and sip as warm as you can stand it.
Yes you can use it cold but honestly warming it feels a lot more comforting when your life’s a morass of tissues and red eyes…
And there you have it – a lovely easy brew most people can make the basic version of in under twenty minutes. Gotta be worth a Like, right?
