End of an Era

As most of you are aware, TEdASPHERE Globe has recently moved providers. As I write this several days before you will read this, I’ve just clicked on the Service Cancellation Request button at Digital Pacific.

This has come suddenly for me. I’ve been their supporter and almost fanboi for the company when I first started using (and recommending) their services like web hosting. Most recently I used their service to host sites like O Hai Corona (which is currently continuing to remain online but will soon redirect to this publication entirely) and also PTEC3D (which is the fledgling site for recycling efforts I’m making and currently needing me to remake it so stay tuned) and it’s always been a great hosting service.

But recently there started to be issues, and while I could deal with some of them, there was one I couldn’t manage. And that uncorked a whole host of issues – starting with not even being able to contact Support by email or their hosting panel, and suddenly having overseas Support on the phone. In the time it took them to re-establish their control panel and whatever was wrong with their email support, almost six weeks had elapsed, during which time things got very slow and precarious on the Globe.

Even once they started trying to provide support, it was ineffective, slow and laborious to get any sense out of them, and around two weeks ago I slipped over to the new current hosting platform. I found out that DP has largely gone offshore and been sold to offshore owners over the last year or so, and that explained it all as far as I was concerned. The current host IS Australian-owned and based and managed my move with minimal fuss.

So the above represents a sad moment for me, and also a matter of pride that we have several good hosting platforms that have sprung up alongside and after DP and which are all excellent providers (I contacted most of them in the weeks leading up to the move) I’ll give a rundown of TERdASPHERE’s new home some time in the future.

For now let me welcome you to the new home of the same old drivel.

If you do, the best thing you can do to help me keep the site going is to go to Ko-Fi or Paypaland make a donation. Also, if you subscribe using the facility just below you can design your own newsletter. Or you can just use the share buttons to share this to your social groups.

Please consider donating – I know I bang on about this but it’s truly the only way to keep the platform afloat without spending my pension. I have a lot of personal stuff to do in the average week, and yet I still manage to put together between two and sometimes as many as six articles a week. I don’t expect to be paid for that as it’s one of my hobbies, but I’d be very happy if I didn’t have to pay quite as much out of our pension for it…
